Description
The New York's Manhattan Bridge - A view from The Brooklyn Bridge Park - Dora Sofia Caputo
The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the East River in New York City, connecting Lower Manhattan at Canal Street with Downtown Brooklyn at the Flatbush Avenue Extension.
The bridge opened to traffic on December 31, 1909. It was designed by Leon Moisseiff, and is noted for its innovative design. As the first suspension bridge to employ Josef Melan's deflection theory for the stiffening of its deck, it is considered to be the forerunner of modern suspension bridges and this design served as the model for many of the long-span suspension bridges built in the first half of the twentieth century.

Dora Sofia - This is a beautiful photograph - BUT unfortunately it is not the Brooklyn Bridge!! This is the Manhattan Bridge, the next bridge up the East River from the Brooklyn Bridge. The Manhattan Bridge is a steel bridge built about 50 years later. The Brooklyn Bridge is the stone bridge with the massive stone arches, please check any source. I love this photo but you should rename it!!!!
Dora Sofia Caputo replied:
I completely agree with you, Steve. Took so many pics of both bridges on that particular day, and I ended up misnaming this one. Thanks for the observation. Will change the name accordingly.

This is stunning Sofia, I've always yearned to see New York and the Brooklyn Bridge, of course I've read a "LOT" of history but our images in the mind usually never measure up to the real thing, so I am delighted with this Photograph as always your work is wonderful! L/F/P I have to pin this one, sure there are many others who would love to see this beauty! :)
