Native American Traditions and Culture - Teepees
This image was taken during a trip to New Mexico a couple of summers ago. On our way from Albuquerque to Santa Fe we had to stop near the roadside as we were in awe of this beautiful display of not only native American Teepees, but old wagons and other artifacts. I hope you enjoy viewing this image and other pictures on the subject of Native American culture showcased in these pages of FAA. Thank you for visiting, and please feel free to make a comment. Much appreciated.
A tipi (also tepee and teepee) is a Lakota name for a conical tent traditionally made of animal skins and wooden poles used by the nomadic tribes and
sedentary tribal dwellers (when hunting) of the Great Plains. Tipis are stereotypically associated with Native Americans in general but Native Americans from places other than the Great Plains mostly used different types
of dwellings. The term "wigwam" (a domed structure) is sometimes incorrectly
used to refer to a tipi. The tipi was durable, provided warmth and comfort in winter, was dry during heavy rains, and was cool in the heat of summer. Tipis could be disassembled and packed away quickly when a tribe decided to move and could be reconstructed quickly upon settling in a new area. This portability was important to Plains Indians with their nomadic lifestyle.
Modern tipi covers are usually made of canvas. Contemporary users of tipis include historical reenactors, back-to-the-land devotees, and Native American families attending powwows or encampments who wish to preserve and pass on a part of their heritage and tradition.

What a great capture of these beautiful teepees. It's special in black and white with red, the geometry not a match but a blend. Congratulations on your many features. So deserved, Dora! F/L+
