Description
The Fountain of Life - Detail - Dora Sofia Caputo
This bronze sculpture (by sculptor Stephen Doyle) of a book entitled The Fountain of Life is a detail of the Fountain of Life sculpture, which dominates the ornamental forecourt of The New York Botanical Garden's Library Building, in New York City. The Fountain of Life sculpture is a prominent architectural feature at the Botanical Garden and a prime example of the golden age of American civic art from 1890 to 1930, when classically inspired public sculpture was an integral component of "City Beautiful" urban planning. The fountain was named after philanthropist donor Lillian Goldman.
